idealism - realism = cynicism

sometimes i don't even know what i'm saying...
i often contradict myself
To see a World in a grain of sand,
And a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.

wanna smash the computer!

if you haven't already heard my grouses about the stupid computer i'm using in the office, you will.

for someone (that's me) who has to view artwork, do some basic diy graphic editing, website maintainence, etc, i'm using an ancient computer with windows 98 os and a grand total of 2gb disk space. they seem to think that i'm so tech-savvy that i can work miracles with a relic. yah, sure. at the expense of my health. apparently, my blood pressure is leaning toward a bit of the high side.

case in point. i had to restart my computer at least 3-4 times yesterday and today. each time i try to print out some artwork for a project/surf the net to do research for a write-up, my computer hanged. today, i almost wanted to just take a hammer and smash the damn computer when it hanged after umpteenth time of trying to print some artwork because the computer ran out of memory/space. i really wanted to cry. there's so much to do and all i can do is sit there and wait for a long long time and pray hard that the printer is gonna churn out what i wanted and i'm not wasting my time waiting. hold on. i'm wasting my time. damn.

other than CC, who's now no longer with the company, i'm 'recognised' as the other tech-savvy one in the office. the irony of it, both of us who can do so much more with better hardware & software had/have to settle for pathetic pc specs, while some others who are not able to fully utilise the pc get higher end pc. it makes no sense to me. i'm expected to do this & there yet my request to upgrade my computer gets turned down. it's really frustrating! i've seen CC, who's normally even-tempered, getting impatient at his old pc. and that says a lot.

today during a meeting, the big boss mentioned about CC having left the company. then he said that if any of us wants to leave, we should see him 3 months before and he will sit down and work out our individual career path with us. DUH!

how about i just get a new pc first?

Tell your big boss that if he doesn't make any immediate plans to get you a new PC, you will leave in 3 days. And, by the way, he needs to carve out your career path with the company, otherwise you'll leave in 3 weeks.

3 months?? Siao!

*Ehh... yah... in reality, can only say that in your dreams. Hmmm... So go sleep and dream.

Why does your boss need to wait for you guys to leave before working out the career pathway? That should be done at the annual appraisal; re-evaluate and re-align on yearly basis. It's kind of duh to be doing it when people have already decided to leave...

As for PC... Next time your computer hang, just keep calling the IT people to come down to fix it. They're guaranteed to get so irritated that they may just help you fight for a new computer. :D Jie dao sha ren.

precisely that's why i say it's so 'duh'.

anyway, i know what they'll tell me if my comp hang again. switch off, wait a while, then on it again.

since he wants it, give it to him. just go tell him that you dun foresee yourself spending the rest of your life just trying to deal with a pc that is not capable of helping you or the company anymore. productivity counts, but the pc is wasting your/company's time, and you're sick of it. life should be spent fighting more useful problems.
