idealism - realism = cynicism

sometimes i don't even know what i'm saying...
i often contradict myself
To see a World in a grain of sand,
And a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.

'appreciate what you have and do your best for a better world'

take a look...

http://www.miniature-earth.com

i know that i'm more fortunate than many, many more in the rest of the world but why am i still not contended?

while there are people out there without jobs, struggling and surviving on only $1/day, i'm lamenting that my air-conditioned office job sucks cos i'm no longer getting any satisfaction, etc even though it pays my bills. including broadband so that i can access the internet and read all about the depressing state of the world. by right, it should enlighten me on how lucky i am. by left, it just means the abyss just got deeper.

i'm passive. i'm no activist. what's the best i can do to make it a better world? quit my job (i'm unhappy anyway), pack my bags and go out to third world countries to champion their cause? hah. i'm a coward. so i guess that's not going to happen.

donate more $$? i'm cynical as to how much of the moolah actually goes to those who really need it and not to some corporate bureacracy.

maybe i should just start by complaining less?

there's a nagging sense of guilt within me. but what's even worse is that i know that most probably by tomorrow, much of that guilt would have dissipated. and i would be back to complaining & whining about everything else.

we are (it could be just me) really difficult to please. argh. agonies of life.

like what i've said (posted) earlier, perhaps ignorance is truly bliss.
