idealism - realism = cynicism

sometimes i don't even know what i'm saying...
i often contradict myself
To see a World in a grain of sand,
And a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.

post-resignation thoughts and activities

it's a Saturday and i'm back in office since early morning. voluntarily. relunctantly. i thought i should take the opportunity to start clearing my desk wihtout interruption while blasting my music in the empty office. my enthusiasm didn't last very long. it's actually very tedious, this whole clearing-up thingy. if you know me well, you should know i'm messy and don't really like all this reorganising stuff.

bah. i'm bored. and here i am blogging.

my spirit has definitely been higher the last few days since i've officially tender my resignation. and here's what happened...

i went in to mgr's room around noon, gave her my letter sealed in an envelope and told her that i'm resigning. she took the letter, didn't open it and the first thing she said to me was to prepare a proper handover. (i so wanted to *roll my eyes*!)

i told her i wanted to inform snr mgr personally. just before i left her room, she asked me if i've found a new job and then congratulated me. (watever...)

the moment i left the room, i knew i've definitely made the right decision to leave.

and then i went to my snr mgr to inform her. we had a brief chat before she left for her appointment. i told her basically i wanted and needed a new environment to learn new things. she understand my position on this but also wanted to find out more from me how my current position can be improved.

i subsequently spoke to the rest of the mktg team, the sales team, etc about my leaving.

afternoon, mgr called me into her room. she said she just got a call from the snr mgr. she sat me down and then asked me if my 'moodiness' sometime back had anything to do with my job-hunting. (it really takes a whole lot of effort to NOT roll my eyes! should i tell her that my moodiness was due to her and that 'pushed' me to find a new job ever so eagerly?)

i just said those are separate things (this was such an useless conversation).

she again mentioned that i should prepare a proper handover, finish up the projects on-hand to make the transition smoother and easier for the next person. and that while i'm here, we should continue to work as a good team... blah blah blah. inbetween, she threw in a few 'compliments'. the kind of courtesies anyone can make.

(but then wait, the following is ultimate!!!)

as i stood up to leave the room, she said that she had just one last thing to say. *drumrolls* and she proceeded to hem and haw that it is what is expected of all bosses (ie she included) and she wanted to ask if there is anything the company can change to make me stay. i told her straight to her face 'No.'

give me a break! people, you can draw your own conclusions.

for me, knowing how things work around here, i knew that she most probably called me in for this useless exchange cos of the call from the snr mgr, asking her about my resignation and reminding/instructing her of what she should have done.

oh, btw, i tendered on tues and the hr mgr only learnt about it on thurs afternoon. maybe my mgr and i really belonged to 2 different worlds cos i expected that she would bring it up to the hr mgr. (i attentioned letter to her and cc only snr mgr.) anyway, she didn't do it till thurs and even then that was not intentionally to inform him. she called him to enquire about my balance leave and only then did the hr mgr realised i've resigned. apparently, she assumed he already knew.

i really don't know what to say about this.

anyway, i've had what i supposed are my exit interviews with snr mgr and then my md.

i gave my opinions to snr mgr on the criterias for the next person to fill the position. during the talk, she tried to get me to come clean on the 'conflict' between me and mgr. she was not far from her suspicions as to the reasons why i've been unhappy but i didn't readily admit to them. i just explained it all as a difference in 'wavelength'. i know that's really stretching it far but i'm not so stupid as to spill all the beans. maybe when i'm out and far from here. hee.

the talk with my md was really quite funny. we exchanged compliments while talking about my time here. at least his compliments seem more sincere than so-and-so. and that did make me feel a little good.

almost everyone has been very supportive. many congratulated me. haha.

now it's time to get back to the clearing of my desk. or maybe i shld just go home already.
